Summer backpacking kit 2018

Instead of mainly text, I uploaded pictures of our kit and categorized them. Of course I write a description so you can know what you see. 🙂 We brought a minimalis amount in the August of 2018, although this may mean a little bit different for us than to other, ultralight people.

Camping kit

Everything here belongs to sleeping and rest. No matter the transportation method, wild camping stays, so the list is the following:

  • tent
  • sleeping bag
  • silk liners
  • hammock
  • mattresses (by this time, Alan’s Thermarest gave up the fight, sadly) – the red one we only got through halfway from my mom (more on that in the blogpost about our hitch-hiking), so we had to bring the yoga mat for the beginning

Not much to say here. I brought a poncho instead of my rain jacket, because the latter has almost completely lost its waterproofness, although still good against wind and as an extra layer. Apart from these and the towels, we took the following:

  • bikinis and swimming shorts
  • 1 sports bra
  • 2-2 underwear
  • 2-2 socks
  • 1-1 leggings
  • 1 t-shirt for me, 2 for Alan
  • 1-1 tank top
  • 2 shorts for me, 1 for Alan
  • baseball caps, 1 sunglass for me
  • buffs, 1 hat
  • 1 jumper for me, 1 long sleeve merino for Alan

Even if we changed to backpacks, the budget stayed the same, and cooking can save costs in a cheap country like Albania too. So we took the basics. I put the water filter here too, felt like it would fit here the best. We thought we will need to use it every day, but it turned out tap water is drinkable throughout Albania, more so in some regions (for instance close to Ohrid), where spring water comes from the tap, so we only used it to filter lake water.

At first we weren’t sure about it, but the tupperware proved really useful for storing leftovers, exactly how we use it for while cycling. Alan’s first idea was to buy food proof plastic bags to save space, but in the end we thought we have enough of that, since we didn’t have too much stuff. So, the kitchen contains:

  • water filter, 1 two liter water pouch, two water bottles
  • kitchen cloth, for ex. asking for burek
  • reusable pouches and bags, having nuts, seeds, oats, coconut, etc in them
  • cutting board, 2 spoons, knife
  • cleaning brush
  • tupperware, metal mug
  • Trangia set (handle, 2 1 liter pots, 1 2.5l pot, windshield, multifuel stove, fuel bottle)
  • salt and cinnamon in a box

Some things we only got by the end of the tour and we lost a cable in the middle, but this is mostly accurate. 🙂 Obviously this picture was taken with our main phone which cannot be on it. The laptop was a neccesity, because we started without a phone, otherwise we wouldn’t have taken it with us.

  • Charger, usb cable, powerbank, battery charger
  • headlamp
  • Sony A5000 camera
  • Sony Xperia Z3 mobile (which made the photo) and its earphones
  • Samsung X2 cover as an emergency phone
  • Gopro Hero5 Session
  • Dell Latitude E7240 laptop and universal charger
  • Kindle Paperwhite
  • Suunto Ambit 3 Peak and charger

Everything else

Ok, the shoes should have been with the clothes, but I forgot, had to put them somewhere. 🙂 I also threw in everything here which couldn’t fit in any other category, liek hygiene, documents, medicine, etc.
